New Standard: FM 4480, Ground-Mounted or Elevated Photovoltaic Module Systems

FM Approvals Standard 4480, Ground-Mounted or Elevated Photovoltaic Module Systems, applies to all rigid photovoltaic module systems that are secured to frames which are independently secured in place.

Testing procedures for FM 4480 address fire, hail resistance, simulated wind uplift, and electrical safety and performance. Optional testing procedures include loading applied to the photovoltaic modules and their connections.

“FM Approvals continues to be committed to ESG-related initiatives by expanding our suite of environmentally friendly standards,” notes Joanna Blaney, AVP, Technical Team Manager, Building Materials. “These standards will help reduce carbon footprints of companies worldwide while contributing to the advancement of property loss prevention practices.”

FM 4480 does not certify roof mounted or building integrated photovoltaic modules, which are evaluated per;

  • FM 4476 (Flexible Photovoltaic Modules)
  • FM 4478 (Rigid Photovoltaic Modules)
  • FM 4479 (Building Integrated Steel Slope Photovoltaic Roof Covers)
