On September 18, 2024, FM Approvals’ Patrick Byrne and Christopher Shaffer were the featured speakers for The Impact of Cybersecurity Regulations, Standards, and Certification on Digital Equipment, an online certification seminar hosted by (CS)2AI (pronounced “see-say”).
As a global non-profit workforce development organization for professionals charged with securing control systems, with 35,000+ members worldwide, (CS)2AI provides opportunities for peer-to-peer exchanges and continued professional education in direct support of cybersecurity professional development.
During the seminar, Byrne and Shaffer covered the cybersecurity standards landscape, regulatory developments, consensus-based standards, testing and certification, secure by design product development, and the impacts these items have on manufacturers and end users of digital equipment. They also stressed the importance of proper planning by manufacturers impacted by upcoming regulations and proposed alternate approaches to reducing cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
FM Approvals is grateful to have had this opportunity to engage with so many stakeholders focused on the reduction of industrial control system (ICS) and operational technology (OT) vulnerability to continuously evolving cybersecurity threats. As a highly specialized and internationally recognized ISASecure® Certification Body, FM Approvals tests and certifies the conformance of ICS/OT systems and their components to the requirements of ISA/IEC 62443, the world’s only consensus-based automation and control systems cybersecurity standards.
