Effective March 2024, the Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators (ASME A17.1/CSA B44 – 2022) mandates cybersecurity requirements for all internet connected components and subcomponents of elevator and escalator systems. Lack of compliance with the updated code could leave organizations unable to sell or install new elevators or escalators (and their components) once it is adopted.
If you were unaware of this change or are unsure about your product’s compliance to ASME A17.1/CSA B44, FM Approvals can help. Certification to the ISA/IEC-62443 – the consensus-based international cybersecurity standards – is required by ASME A17.1/CSA B44 and we can help your organization get there.
As a highly specialized and internationally recognized ISASecure® Certification Body, FM Approvals tests and certifies both the design facility and the products for conformance of connected systems and components to the ISA/IEC-62443 standards. FM Approvals’ engineers can work with manufacturers’ internal engineers or suppliers’ engineers to determine the cybersecurity readiness of a product prior to testing. Together, we can come to a consensus on how to proceed – either a determination that more cybersecurity measures are needed or confirmation that the product is ready to be tested to the requirements of ISA/IEC-62443.
The FM Approvals Cybersecurity Certification Program addresses elevator and escalator systems as well as industrial control systems (ICS), physical devices with cloud-based processes (IoT), and intelligent building management and security systems (IIoT). An FM Approvals cybersecurity certification fulfills the new cybersecurity requirements of ASME A17.1/CSA B44.
