Examination Standard 4482, Roof Maintenance Coatings, states the testing and certification requirements for roof maintenance coatings – liquid applied products with or without reinforcements that are applied over existing, functioning roof systems.
As part of the requirements, certified roof maintenance coatings must be used in conjunction with previously installed certified roofs. The testing evaluates whether or not maintenance coatings decrease the external fire performance of the existing roof.
Coatings that are now evaluated to the new FM 4482 were previously evaluated via FM 4470, Examination Standard for Single-Ply, Polymer-Modified Bitumen Sheet, Build-Up Roof (BUR) and Liquid Applied Roof Assemblies for Use in Class 1 and Noncombustible Roof Deck Construction. FM 4482 allows for better differentiation of these products.
