FM Approvals Standard 5700, Explosion Suppression Systems, has been updated with a new explosion suppression test methodology, evaluating the performance of explosion suppressors and their system limitations.
Full scale explosion tests include unsuppressed tests that are used to characterize the reactivity of the explosions, followed by suppression tests that are used to quantify the performance of the suppression system. Explosion vessels are selected depending on the suppressant bottle capacity.
Component level testing for individual system components, detection, and controls is also included in the update – which is comparable with other FM Approval standards for similar equipment.
