Examination Standard 1333, Diesel Engine Fire Pump Drivers, has undergone a revision as part of FM Approvals' ongoing efforts to ensure our standards are aligned with changes to relevant codes and the latest product developments. The updated standard was published in April 2022 and includes the following major updates:
- A new load acceleration (Pump Following) test verifies certified engines are able to produce sufficient power at all intermediate speeds in order to accelerate a fire pump from rest to engine rated speed;
- Added a definition and clarification for range rated engines. Engines certified over a range of speeds are required to be tested at the minimum, maximum, and one intermediate speed;
- Requirements for hybrid (mechanical/electrical) speed control systems were added;
- An idle speed power test has been added for variable speed controlled engines
