FM Approvals Standard 5130, Foam Extinguishing Systems, has undergone a revision with the following changes:
- Low Expansion Foam Concentrate Extinguishing Performance, standard updated to add requirements for Class B hydrocarbon liquid testing of synthetic fluorine free foam (SFFF) concentrates and to clarify requirements for existing concentrate types
- Performance tests for variable viscosity foam proportioning equipment which includes requirements for water motor driven variable viscosity proportioners and electronically controlled variable viscosity proportioners
- Foam concentrate identification benchmarking, the standard updated to incorporate chemical “fingerprinting” of all foam concentrates at the time of fire testing to ensure extinguishing performance is maintained over time
