Hazard Involved
The product in question is a Model SLV-24N Conventional Photoelectric Smoke Detector. It bears the labeling indicating it is capable of detecting smoke levels within its sensitivity range of 0.5 to 3.8%/ft (1.64 to 12.47%/m). The detector had been returned to Hochiki America Corporation by an end user who complained that the device did not work as intended. Hochiki America Corporation has identified the detector as a counterfeit. Furthermore, during internal tests on the counterfeit detector performed by the Hochiki America Corporation, the detector did not function as intended. Hochiki believes that any of the detector bases the counterfeit detector was used with - NS6 Series, NS4 Series or HSC Relay 2-wire detector bases or HSC-4R 4-wire detector bases - (not returned to the Hochiki America Corporation by the end user) was also counterfeit. Since there is no evidence these counterfeit products have ever been tested to the rigorous requirements of any testing and certification organization, including FM Approvals, we advise that use of these products presents a serious safety concern for the user. The source of the counterfeit detector has not yet been discovered.
